Should you dress your age?

Should you dress your age, this is a subject which causes much discussion between friends, neighbours and colleagues and one which can really split the views.

As a stylist and a woman of 43 I firmly believe that age has nothing to do with how we dress and I for one get really fed up when we are expected to look a certain way just because of how old we are. I think what we wear has to do more with our mental age not our physical age.

Style is all about personality, lifestyle and body shape and what we wear does represent who we are as people.

This is a fabulous quote “Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live.”

— Gianni Versace

I believe fashion and the trends can be worn by all ages, we just wear it differently through the age ranges, for example;

15-20 – Top trend

20-30 – High end fashion

30-40 – Modern trends worn in a up to date manner

40-50 – A modern twist using the trends to inject an up to date look

50+ – Simple, chic, elegant look using the trends to inject an up to date look

One thing I do get asked an awful lot by clients is that can they shop in high street stores such as Top Shop, H & M, Zara and others as they now feel they are too old for these high fashion stores. This is an area I am very passionate about and I firmly believe that although you may not buy your whole wardrobe from one of these stores there will definitely be a little surprise in each one that will make your heart sing….never rule out any store, if you do this you will miss out on beautiful pieces.

You may feel that you know your style and rather like what you see in the mirror each morning but there are times in your lives that you will feel bored, stuck in a rut and fed up with your current look, please do be brave and try new styles and colours. Experimenting is fun and can give you a new found confidence.

lots of love
